MARIE BRITT

Clinical Psychologist

Marie holds a Bachelor of Psychological Science, an Honours degree in Psychology, and a Master of Clinical Psychology from the University of New England. Her clinical experience includes working in community health, hospital inpatient and outpatient settings, and providing individual assessment and treatment. Most recently, Marie worked as a group therapist at St John of God Hospital in Sydney for two years. In this role, she facilitated groups including for emergency/first responders experiencing occupational trauma, and a dialectical behavioural therapy program for clients challenged by interpersonal communication and emotion dysregulation.

Marie is a warm, down-to-earth, and empathetic therapist. She recognises that it is a big step for many to seek professional assistance and that it may be unfamiliar and challenging to disclose one’s personal difficulties. Marie aims to create a safe, non-judgmental and respectful space where people feel comfortable to share their experiences.

Marie has experience working with adults and adolescents presenting with mental health challenges including anxiety, panic, depression, stress, and trauma, and concerned with emotional dysregulation, dealing with relationship concerns, anger, grief and loss, life transitions, and low self-esteem. She has a special interest in the treatment of PTSD in emergency/first responders, community protectors and the veteran community.

Marie has a flexible approach to therapy, drawing upon a number of evidence-based therapies including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) and mindfulness. She is also a registered Circle of Security Parenting program facilitator, which enables her to facilitate an early intervention program designed to enhance attachment security between parents and children.
